Let's Learn BSL

British Sign Language
Online Courses for Children
Let’s Learn BSL is an online British Sign Language resource designed specifically for children and their families.
Our short, engaging courses focus on simple, everyday signs that are relevant to school-aged children — signs they can use at school, at home, and with friends. The lessons are designed to be accessible and easy to follow, helping children build confidence using basic sign language in everyday situations.
These courses are intended as an introduction to BSL, not a route to fluency or formal qualifications. Their aim is to support inclusion, encourage communication, and develop a greater awareness and understanding of deaf and hard of hearing people.
At Let’s Learn BSL, we believe that even learning a small number of signs can make a big difference. By introducing children to sign language early, we hope to inspire empathy, curiosity, and more inclusive communities.
If you’re looking for an early introduction to British Sign Language for your child, you’re in the right place.
Let's Learn BSL
A child-friendly introduction to British Sign Language
Our courses are designed for children aged six and over and focus on topics and themes that children are most likely to use in their daily lives.
Lessons are delivered through short, easy-to-follow videos that children can watch at their own pace and revisit as often as needed.
These courses are ideal for:
-
Children who want to learn some basic signs
-
Families of deaf or hard-of-hearing children
-
Hearing children who want to communicate more inclusively
They are designed as a starting point, supporting early exposure to sign language rather than replacing Deaf-led or accredited BSL education.

Sessions

We also offer optional 1:1 online support sessions with the creator of Let’s Learn BSL, Jean Norfolk.
These sessions are designed to:
-
Support children working through the course
-
Practise signs already learned
-
Build confidence using basic signs
-
Provide encouragement and guidance
The sessions are not formal BSL tuition and do not lead to fluency or qualifications. They are intended as supportive, child-friendly sessions to help learners feel more comfortable using the signs taught in the courses.
Learning sign language at home has never been easier.
Once signed up, your child will have access to the full course, broken down into clear, manageable sections. Each section focuses on a specific theme and includes one or more videos demonstrating the relevant signs.
Children can work through the course at their own pace and rewatch videos as needed.
Once the course is complete, your child will receive a certificate of achievement to celebrate their learning.

Who can book?
Online support sessions are primarily designed for children, with a parent or carer present throughout the video call. They may also be helpful for families or beginners who would like guidance using the course materials.
Jean has studied British Sign Language up to Level 3 and brings lived experience as a parent of a deaf child. These sessions are offered as supplementary support only, and learners who wish to progress further are encouraged to continue their BSL journey with Deaf tutors and accredited providers.
